The United States will apply any pressure in the economy and politics to bring Venezuelan leader Nicolas Maduro to justice for the crisis in his country, Reuters reports, referring to US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.
The Secretary of State made his statement while visiting Colombia. In addition to pressure on Maduro, he promised to assist the people of Venezuela. Besides, Pompeo threatened with sanctions against Russia, China, and Cuba, which continue to support the Maduro regime. In his opinion, these states hinder the development of democratic values.
The US government and several other Western powers have recognized Venezuelan President Juan Guaido, head of the opposition, while Maduro continues to enjoy the support of Russia, China, and Cuba.
The White House continues to expand the list of sanctions related to the situation in Venezuela. Several companies and offshore ships delivering petroleum products to Cuba were added to it.
